WHAT IS LACTATE AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Lactate is a chemical that our muscles make during exercise when they can't get enough oxygen. It helps our bodies make energy without needing as much oxygen, but making too much of it will lead to fatigue and eventually exhaustion.

WHAT IS LACTATE THRESHOLD?

Lactate threshold (LT) refers to the point during exercise when lactate production exceeds lactate clearance, resulting in a build-up of lactate in the blood. There are two main thresholds commonly referred to in lactate testing: LT1 and LT2.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LT1 AND LT2?

LT1 is the point where we start to produce more lactate, and our body starts to use more carbohydrates instead of fat for energy. This means we can keep going for longer periods of time.

LT2 is the point where we produce too much lactate and our muscles get tired and sore quickly. This means we can only keep going for short periods of time.

BUT HOW DOES THIS HELP ME?

Improving both LT1 and LT2 can lead to significant improvements in overall athletic performance and endurance.

By increasing LT1, athletes can exercise at higher intensities for longer periods, while improving LT2 can delay the onset of fatigue and allow athletes to maintain high-intensity efforts for longer periods.

Ultimately, optimizing both thresholds can lead to better race times, greater endurance, and improved overall fitness.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Using The Lactate Lab testing kits, you'll be able to determine your very own LT1 and LT2 intensities.

Only then will you be able to truly tailor your training regime to target these thresholds.

By tailoring your training to your LT1 and LT2 thresholds, you can improve your overall athletic performance and endurance.

Over time, you'll be able to exercise at higher intensities for longer periods of time, and you'll see improvements in your race times, overall fitness, and endurance.
